Durable OTR Mining Tires
Durable industrial pneumatic radial OTR tires are core components of mining trucks, specifically designed for extreme operating environments such as open-pit mines. Mining conditions severely test tire performance: summer surface temperatures often exceed 40 degrees Celsius, and air humidity can remain above 80% for extended periods during the rainy season.
Coupled with rough, uneven road surfaces and the continuous heavy loads of mining trucks, traditional tires have experienced approximately 20% abnormal failure rates under these conditions. Therefore, the degree of tire performance matching directly affects mining operational efficiency and transportation safety.
The traction performance of this type of tire is enhanced through targeted tread design and rubber compound. It employs an open tread block structure, with laterally continuous grooves that gradually widen from the inside out to enhance ground grip. It also has excellent self-cleaning properties, reducing mud and gravel accumulation and maintaining effective tread contact with the ground.
Some models feature deepened directional tread patterns and beveled edges at specific angles, which disperse ground stress on complex road surfaces such as rock and soft soil, improving traction stability during starting, braking, and climbing, thus meeting the needs of mining trucks that frequently start and stop and operate on slopes.
Tire driving stability relies on radial structure and reinforced carcass design. Radial cords are arranged at approximately 90 degrees perpendicular to the tread centerline, allowing the tread and sidewalls to work relatively independently. Under load, this increases the contact patch area and provides more even pressure distribution, helping to reduce pressure per unit area and minimize tread creep deformation.
The carcass uses high-strength skeleton materials, with added anti-friction protrusions on the sidewalls and reinforced bumps at the shoulder grooves, effectively resisting damage from gravel impacts and cuts. Optimized contact patch shape enhances vehicle handling stability under heavy loads, helping to reduce the risk of roll.
Extending tire life in complex road conditions hinges on advancements in materials and bonding technologies. The cobalt-free formulation, combined with a coated steel cord bonding system, eliminates reliance on traditional cobalt. Through a gradient-distributed flexible coating, the adhesion strength between the rubber and steel cord is increased by over 40%, and corrosion resistance is approximately three times that of previous systems.
This structure, acting like a "mechanical anchor," firmly locks the steel cord in place, resisting repeated deformation under heavy loads and reducing delamination failure rates by over 95%. Combined with a wear-resistant and cut-resistant tread compound and a widened crown design, in actual operating scenarios such as coal mines in Quang Ninh Province, Vietnam, the overall service life of these tires is increased by over 15% compared to previous products.
As a critical consumable component in mining truck operation, the durability of these tires also positively impacts operating cost control. Smoother road surfaces combined with highly adaptable tires reduce abnormal wear, their anti-aging and corrosion-resistant properties allow the tires to adapt to various mining environments, including tropical and coastal climates, thus reducing replacement frequency.
In addition, stable structural performance helps reduce downtime and maintenance due to tire failure, supporting continuous mine production and meeting the current development requirements of the mining industry for efficient and economical equipment.
