As the market penetration rate of new energy vehicles continues to increase, tires, as a key component directly affecting vehicle safety, range, and comfort, are facing a new round of upgrade challenges in terms of technical standards and product performance.
In recent years, my country has successively issued standards such as GB/T 29041-2023, which put forward clear requirements for new energy vehicle tires: the rolling resistance coefficient must be ≤6.5kg/t, which is about 30% stricter than the standards for traditional fuel vehicle tires. Higher indicators have also been set for load-bearing strength and noise control. Under this trend, tires specifically developed for electric vehicles have become a new high ground for industry competition.
Goodyear's e-Ride series EV-specific tires, with their core characteristics of low rolling resistance, high quietness, and strong load-bearing capacity, precisely meet the requirements of the new national standards in terms of energy conservation and safety. Through deep cooperation with leading electric vehicle manufacturers such as Tesla, they demonstrate the technological strength and market recognition of leading brands in the new energy vehicle sector.
The core competitiveness of Goodyear's e-Ride series stems from a deep understanding of the usage scenarios of new energy vehicles and targeted technological breakthroughs. Regarding rolling resistance, a key indicator affecting driving range, this series utilizes a durable and wear-resistant rubber compound and an optimized tread structure design. Tested according to GB/T 29040 "Test Method for Rolling Resistance of Automobile Tires," its rolling resistance is only 5.99 N/KN, nearly 6% better than the industry average for similar products.
This effectively reduces vehicle energy consumption and improves driving range. Third-party test data from companies like China Automotive Selection show that Tesla Model Y equipped with these tires exhibits a significantly improved driving range under combined road conditions compared to vehicles using ordinary tires, effectively responding to the new national standard's guidance on energy conservation and emission reduction.
Noise reduction is a crucial aspect of the electric vehicle driving experience. Without the masking effect of traditional engine noise, tire noise is more pronounced in electric vehicles. The e-Ride series achieves a breakthrough in noise reduction through dual innovations in materials and structure: the tire's interior uses upgraded sound-insulating material tightly wrapped around the tire, effectively blocking noise transmission; the tread design, combined with fine sipes, reduces whistling noise generated by air compression.
Real-world testing shows that at a speed of 60 km/h, the in-car noise level is only 60.3 dB, ranking among the top in its class of electric vehicle tires. This significantly improves NVH performance, meeting the needs of new energy vehicle users for a quiet driving environment and also complying with the new national standards for comfort.
Addressing the characteristic of new energy vehicles, where the weight generally increases by 30%-50% due to the battery pack, the e-Ride series has undergone special reinforcement in its tire structure. High-density cord materials enhance overall load-bearing capacity, and a widened central rib design increases the contact patch, resulting in more even pressure distribution and easily handling the greater load demands of electric vehicles.
In terms of safety, the tread incorporates an ETCR racing-grade 100% natural pine resin compound. Its dense molecular structure enhances road adhesion, resulting in more stable braking performance on both dry and wet roads. Real-world testing shows a 100 km/h-0 km/h dry braking distance of only 35.13 meters, superior to the industry average and meeting the high standards of the new national standards for tire impact resistance and braking safety.
Goodyear's deep partnership with Tesla is a powerful testament to its technological strength. To date, Goodyear has supplied over 3 million tires for Tesla vehicles worldwide, with the e-Race series being the standard original equipment tire for the Tesla Model Y, featuring a unique "T0" marking on the sidewall. This marking signifies that the tire has been officially certified by Tesla and has passed over 100 rigorous tests jointly developed by both companies, covering multiple dimensions including high-torque motor output, energy management, and durability.
After three to four years of joint research and development and repeated adjustments, this tire series is perfectly suited to the high instantaneous torque and unique weight distribution characteristics of electric vehicles, becoming a model of collaborative innovation between OEMs and tire companies.
Against the backdrop of the rapid development of the new energy vehicle industry and the gradual improvement of national standards, the tire industry is iterating towards greater energy efficiency, safety, and comfort. Goodyear's e-Race series, with its targeted technological development, aligns with both policy and market requirements, and its reliability is validated by its partnership with a leading automaker.
Looking ahead, as electric vehicle technology continues to evolve, tire companies will still need to seek a higher level of balance in the performance triangle of "low rolling resistance, high quietness, and long wear resistance".
