Behind this growth is the collective recognition of environmental value across the global industrial chain, marking a comprehensive transformation of the tire industry from traditional manufacturing to green intelligent manufacturing. Green attributes have become a key indicator of a company's core competitiveness.
At the policy level, countries are enacting strict regulations to form a closed-loop environmental supervision system covering the entire lifecycle of tires. The EU is at the forefront, implementing the world's first tire wear particulate matter emission limit in 2028. Euro 7 regulations tighten rolling resistance and noise limits, forcing technological iteration.
The Sustainable Product Ecodesign Regulation (SPCR) introduces digital product passports, constructs a full-process traceability framework, and requires the disclosure of core environmental data, providing a basis for green certification.

These material innovations not only reduce dependence on petroleum resources but also break the industry misconception that "environmental protection and high performance are mutually exclusive" through performance optimization.
At the factory level, renewable energy substitution, closed-loop production, and intelligent processes are key transformation focuses, with green manufacturing restructuring cost structures. Pirelli's two factories in China have been recognized as national-level "green factories," reducing costs and carbon emissions through energy optimization and a localized supply chain.
Guizhou Tire, as the industry's first "lighthouse factory," achieves high efficiency and environmental protection through intelligent production and energy recycling. Green transformation achieves a symbiotic relationship between environmental protection and economic benefits, and large-scale green factories can significantly reduce energy consumption and operating costs.
It is worth noting that the rapid growth of new energy vehicles has further accelerated the demand for green tires, becoming a significant catalyst for industry transformation. The International Energy Agency predicts that global electric vehicle sales will exceed 20 million units by 2025, accounting for more than 25% of new car sales.
The technical characteristics of electric vehicles place more stringent demands on tires. Due to the large weight and high instantaneous torque of electric vehicle batteries, and consumers' extreme sensitivity to driving range, a 10% reduction in tire rolling resistance can increase the driving range of an electric vehicle by 3%-5%. Meanwhile, quietness directly impacts the driving experience. Leading new energy vehicle manufacturers such as Tesla and NIO have made low-rolling-resistance, low-noise green tires standard equipment. Michelin's Primacy 4 tires for the Tesla Model Y, using a 30% bio-based rubber and silicone reinforcement system, reduce energy consumption by 0.8 kWh per 100 kilometers, becoming an industry benchmark. In the commercial new energy vehicle sector, the energy-saving benefits of green tires are even more significant.
A global logistics giant estimated that its annual energy costs could be reduced by $12 million after its electric truck fleet fully adopted green tires. The synergistic development of new energy vehicles and green tires has not only expanded the market space for green tires but also driven technological breakthroughs in areas such as material formulation and structural design, accelerating the green transformation process of the entire industry chain.
