The Shenyang Development and Reform Commission has approved the energy saving report for Michelin Shenyang Tire Co., Ltd.'s green intelligent manufacturing project, aimed at producing 830,000 high-performance radial tires annually. The project reuses five existing buildings across 78,101 square meters and integrates advanced equipment such as automated conveyors, robots, and intelligent storage systems. Relying on electricity and heat as primary energy sources, with new water as a working fluid, the project’s total annual energy consumption stands at 3,759.79 tons of standard coal (equivalent value). It achieves a unit industrial added value energy consumption of 0.2655 tons of standard coal per 10,000 yuan and a unit product energy consumption of 246.50 kg of standard coal per ton—well below the 380 kg benchmark in Liaoning’s energy efficiency guidelines. Since entering China in 1989 and establishing its Shenyang plant in 1995, Michelin has expanded significantly. However, it recently revised its 2024 sales growth forecast downward to a 4–6% decline due to sluggish global demand and intense competition from low-cost Asian brands. Despite these challenges, Michelin continues to focus on high-value products to maintain profitability, aiming for a 14% operating margin amid a competitive and evolving tire market.
