New Energy Vehicle Export Share Exceeds 50% for Four Consecutive Months
At a press conference held by the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM) on October 12, it was revealed that China's new energy vehicle monthly export share has exceeded 50% for four consecutive months, highlighting the trend of new energy vehicles becoming the dominant force in China's automobile exports.
September Export Data
According to CAAM data, in September, automobile production and sales reached 2.99 million and 2.956 million units respectively, with month-on-month increases of 11.4% and 9%, but year-on-year decreases of 8.7% and 8.4%. From January to September, cumulative automobile production and sales reached 23.246 million and 23.271 million units, both down 4.5% year-on-year.
In terms of exports, September automobile exports reached 1.053 million units, up 4.2% month-on-month and 61.4% year-on-year. Of this, new energy vehicle exports reached 571,000 units, up 8.6% month-on-month and 160% year-on-year. Traditional fuel vehicle exports were 482,000 units, down 0.6% month-on-month but up 12% year-on-year.
January-September Cumulative Exports
From January to September, automobile exports totaled 8.205 million units, up 65.8% year-on-year. New energy vehicle exports reached 4.006 million units, up 130% year-on-year, while traditional fuel vehicle exports were 4.2 million units, up 31.6% year-on-year. Since June, monthly automobile exports have exceeded 1 million units for four consecutive months, with new energy vehicles accounting for over half of exports for four straight months.
Full-Year Export Expected to Exceed 10 Million
CAAM Deputy Secretary-General Chen Shihua stated that in the fourth quarter, the industry is expected to maintain a stable operating trend, with overall exports projected to continue growing and full-year exports potentially exceeding 10 million units. The 250 billion yuan consumer goods trade-in subsidy has been fully allocated, and existing policies will further enhance implementation effectiveness. Combined with local and corporate promotional activities, the decline in domestic market sales is expected to narrow.
Chen also noted that the recently released Smart Connected New Energy Vehicle Industry Development 15th Five-Year Plan provides top-level guidance for the industry, focusing on key core technology breakthroughs, vehicle-road-cloud cross-sector integration, industrial structure optimization, industry governance improvement, and internationalization, which will help stabilize market expectations, address supply chain gaps, and accelerate the cultivation of new quality productive forces.
At the Paris Motor Show, which opened on the same day, 16 Chinese automakers participated with 25 brands, including Leapmotor, BYD, XPeng, and Changan. Compared to the previous edition, Chinese automakers demonstrated more mature product strategies, reflecting the acceleration of China's automotive globalization process, transitioning from product exports to full industry chain exports.
