Nexen Tire is establishing a dedicated winter tire testing center at the UTAC proving ground in Ivalo, Finland—300 km north of the Arctic Circle—to strengthen its winter tire R&D and performance testing. The facility, set to launch full operations in December 2025, will feature R&D offices, workshops, and an ice and snow track spanning 2,000 meters—equivalent to 20 football fields. Operated by UTAC, the center will extend Nexen’s annual winter testing window from one to four months, ensuring stable access amid rising demand. It will support 3PMSF certification testing, crucial for European market competitiveness, where winter tires are essential. Nexen also operates test centers in Taebaek, South Korea, and Wanaka, New Zealand, enabling year-round winter testing across diverse conditions. CEO Travis Kang emphasized the center’s role in shortening development cycles, advancing core technologies, and reinforcing Nexen’s position in Europe, which accounts for 40% of global sales. The investment underscores Nexen’s commitment to innovation and brand growth, enhancing its standing among luxury vehicle manufacturers and accelerating its rise as a global tire leader.
