The Tire Speed Rating: A Safety Code
When driving on the highway and the speed needle on the dashboard approaches 120km/h, many people will silently tighten their hearts. But if you look down at the side of the tire, you will find a strange letter printed on it, followed by a number of two or three hundred - this is the tire speed grade, a "safety code" hidden in the tire.
The birth of the speed rating system stems from the increase in vehicle speed brought about by the rapid development of the automobile industry and the continuous improvement of road conditions. With the enhancement of automobile power performance and the increasingly improved highway network, the speed of vehicles has increased significantly.
However, when ordinary tires are running at high speeds, they will face many challenges due to factors such as centrifugal force and friction, such as a sharp increase in tire temperature, a decrease in rubber material performance, and huge pressure on the tire structure.

The letters and numbers on this set of certificates are not randomly marked. From the A1 grade (up to 5km/h) for low-speed special vehicles to the Y grade (300km/h) for high-performance sports cars, each grade has been tested in the laboratory and verified on the actual road countless times.
For example, for common family cars, it is enough to equip them with Q-grade (160km/h) and R-grade (170km/h) tires for slow driving in the city and on the highway, and the cost performance is high; but if you drive a supercar on the track, ordinary tires will not be able to "hold up" in a minute, and you must change to V-grade (240km/h) or even W-grade (270km/h) "high-performance running shoes" to firmly grasp the ground.
Choosing the wrong tire speed grade is like installing a large truck tire on a small car. It seems "safe", but it is actually a hidden danger. In the news a while ago, a driver replaced his car with a low-speed grade tire in order to save money. As a result, the tire burst on the highway, and the vehicle lost control and hit the guardrail. This is because the tire speed is not enough.
When driving at high speed, the internal temperature soars, the rubber aging rate doubles, the cord strength drops sharply, the grip is greatly reduced, the braking distance becomes longer, the steering is not obedient, and the safety hazards are full. On the contrary, choosing the right speed grade tires will not only drive steadily, but also extend the "life" of the tires, and the handling feel when cornering and braking will be more comfortable.
The progress of science and technology is also constantly upgrading this set of "safety codes". The research and development of new materials has given tires "superpowers": the same V-level tires, the current products have lower rolling resistance, which can help car owners save fuel; they are more wear-resistant and do not need to be replaced after running 70,000 to 80,000 kilometers.
There is also smart tire technology, which is like installing a "little housekeeper" for the tire, monitoring speed, temperature, and pressure in real time, and immediately "alarming" once there is an abnormality, strangling the danger in the cradle.
