The specialty tire market faced a challenging 2024, with leading manufacturers like Michelin reporting weaker-than-expected sales across key segments. Despite modest growth in passenger car tire replacements—driven by demand for winter and all-season tires in Europe—OEM and commercial vehicle tire businesses declined due to sluggish global economic recovery and reduced industrial activity. Specialty tires, including those for mining, off-road, aircraft, and two-wheel vehicles, saw an unexpected 1–5% drop in sales, worse than prior forecasts. While off-road and polymer composite solutions suffered from low demand and high inventory bases, two-wheel and aircraft tire markets showed resilience, with China emerging as a growth driver. Although 2024 marked a downturn following strong performance from 2021–2023, improving customer inventories and market corrections suggest a potential recovery in 2025.
