2,807 Chinese New Energy Vehicles Exported to South America via Zhuhai

Zhuhai Economic and Technological Development Zone achieved a breakthrough in its first containerized export of new energy vehicles. On September 22, Zhuhai International Container Terminal (Gaolan), referred to as Gaolan International Terminal, loaded a total of 2,807 domestically produced new energy vehicles destined for South America, with a total cargo value of approximately 290 million yuan.

This marks the first time Gaolan International Terminal has operated a containerized NEV export project, and also sets a record for the highest single-export vehicle volume at the Gaolan Port Area of Zhuhai Port, opening a flexible and efficient new logistics channel for the export of Chinese new energy vehicles.

Li Bo, Director and General Manager of Gaolan International Terminal, introduced that the vehicles are domestically produced independent-brand pure electric vehicles. They were gathered from inland provinces via railway transport, then transferred by short-haul road to Gaolan International Terminal, and loaded onto COSCO Shipping Specialized Carriers vessels bound for the South American market. This business is the first containerized NEV export operation at Gaolan International Terminal, and also a successful attempt at sea-rail intermodal transport empowering NEV exports.

In recent years, China's NEV production and sales have continued to lead globally, with overseas orders showing explosive growth. However, logistics remains a hurdle that must be overcome. As a special cargo category, NEV transport has extremely high requirements for safety, efficiency, and compliance, and automakers urgently need a reliable international logistics channel.

In response to this demand, Zhuhai Port Holdings Group partnered with COSCO Shipping Specialized Carriers, leveraging Gaolan Port's geographical advantages and port collection and distribution system, combined with COSCO's specialized vessel expertise and global route network, to tailor a dedicated NEV export service plan. This fully utilized the sea-rail intermodal channel to connect the logistics chain from "inland sourcing - railway port collection - port container loading - ocean shipping."

The NEV export project involves BYD DOLPHIN series vehicles with a cargo value of approximately 290 million yuan, destined for Vitoria Port in Brazil. The project will be shipped in two voyages, with a total of 965 containers planned to carry 2,807 NEVs.

Relevant officials from Zhuhai Economic and Technological Development Zone stated that in the future, the zone will continue to strengthen Gaolan Port's comprehensive hub function, relying on the "shipping + Gaolan Port railway" intermodal model to build a Xijiang comprehensive freight hub connecting inland areas with emerging global markets, seizing the opportunities of overseas market green transformation, and promoting more "Made in China" products to set sail from Zhuhai.
