The transformation path of China's tire industry
Roaring machines are running day and night, and brand-new factories are rising everywhere. China's tire industry is experiencing an unprecedented "capacity carnival". Statistics show that domestic tire production capacity is expanding wildly at an annual rate of 8%, and overseas bases are springing up like mushrooms after rain, with a growth rate of up to 40%.
From industry giants spending a lot of money to expand production lines to small and medium-sized enterprises following suit to build factories, this capacity competition has entered a white-hot stage, as if whoever stops will be ruthlessly abandoned by the times.
However, in sharp contrast to the hot production scene is the chill on the market side. In the terminal market, price inversion is common, like a sharp blade, piercing the heart of every practitioner. As the "blood" of tire production, the price of natural rubber has soared to 18,000 yuan/ton, which has severely squeezed the profit margin of enterprises. In order to maintain the cost advantage, enterprises must expand their production capacity by more than 30%, which is undoubtedly a thrilling "life and death gamble".
The balance of market demand is also quietly tilting. The rise of new energy vehicles has given rise to a strong demand for special tires. Tires that are suitable for new energy vehicles with high performance and low rolling resistance have become a "hot commodity" in the market and are in short supply.
However, traditional fuel vehicle tires have fallen into a "cold winter", with a large amount of inventory piling up, occupying huge amounts of corporate funds. In order to clear inventory, dealers have launched price wars, and market competition has fallen into chaos.
The external environment is even worse. Environmental protection policies have been tightened, and almost stringent requirements have been put forward for energy consumption and emissions in tire production. Enterprises have to invest a lot of money to upgrade environmental protection equipment and transform production technology. In the field of international trade, trade barriers such as anti-dumping investigations and technical standard restrictions have emerged one after another, making the road to Chinese tire exports bumpy and difficult to expand overseas markets.
In this "ice and fire" contest, Chinese tire companies did not sit idly by, but actively sought a way out. They know that only by actively seeking change can they survive in the fierce market competition. More and more companies are increasing their R&D investment, focusing on the R&D of high-performance, green and environmentally friendly tires, launching innovative products such as low rolling resistance tires and smart tires to meet the diversified needs of the market and increase product added value.
At the same time, companies are accelerating their global layout. Establishing production bases, R&D centers and sales networks overseas can not only avoid trade barriers, but also reduce production costs, and be closer to the target market and respond to customer needs in a timely manner.
Green smart manufacturing has also become an important direction for the transformation of the industry. By introducing advanced intelligent manufacturing technology, the production process can be made intelligent, automated and green, production efficiency can be improved, and energy consumption and environmental pollution can be reduced.
This fierce collision between production capacity and the market is just like a microcosm of the upgrading process of China's manufacturing, exposing the contradiction between the traditional development model and the new market demand and external environment.
However, challenges often coexist with opportunities. The Chinese tire industry stands at the crossroads of history. Only by firmly adhering to the path of innovation, continuously optimizing the industrial structure, and continuously improving core competitiveness can it pass through this "ice and fire" test, achieve a gorgeous turn, and continue to write the legend of China's manufacturing.
