On October 17, Zijin Mining held its eighth Science and Technology Conference in Shanghang, Fujian. Multiple academicians, experts, government officials, association representatives, and over 600 participants from universities, research institutes, and mining enterprises attended the event.

Chinese Academy of Engineering academician Shen Zhengchang noted at the conference that the Zijin Mining Science and Technology Conference has become an important platform for insight into industry frontiers and gathering global expertise. "Eight consecutive conferences with academicians and experts assembling each time is a high recognition of Zijin's technological strength, responsibility, and global vision."

Currently, global exploration has entered the "deep era," placing higher demands on mining enterprises' technological capabilities. At the Mag copper-gold mine in Serbia, the self-developed "Zhendan" 3D induced polarization system can detect depths exceeding 1,500 meters. Thanks to this system and other exploration equipment, the Mag copper-gold mine is the second-largest copper mine discovered through global greenfield exploration in the past five years.

The "Zhendan" system has now been applied in over 40 exploration areas. Last year, it was included in the Ministry of Natural Resources' first batch of promoted exploration equipment list, alongside drone aeromagnetic and other equipment.

With economic geology theory and internationally advanced exploration technology as support, Zijin Mining has achieved breakthrough exploration results. In 2024, the Julong copper mine added 14.726 million tons of copper resources, becoming China's largest registered copper deposit. The Duobaoshan copper mine in Heilongjiang added 3.65 million tons of copper resources through deep exploration, becoming the only super-large single copper mine discovered in Northeast China in nearly 40 years.

During the 14th Five-Year Plan period, the company's independent exploration added 23.46 million tons of copper resources, with a per-ton copper exploration cost of 71 yuan, only one-third of the industry average.

In response to the dual carbon strategy, Zijin Mining has set targets to achieve carbon peaking by 2029 and carbon neutrality by 2050. At the Zijinshan and Julong copper mines, electric "behemoths" shuttle back and forth in orderly fashion. These are the 140-ton and 230-ton pure electric mining trucks released this year by Zijin Longjing, enriching the product ecosystem of domestic high-altitude large-tonnage pure electric mining dump trucks.

"From electrification to intelligence, and further connecting energy, equipment, and mining scenarios, this is the next stage's even greater space," said Cao Zhichun, chief expert of Zijin Longjing mining trucks.

Zijin Mining has accelerated the deep integration of industrial digitalization, intelligence, and green development, taking the lead in the industry by deploying nearly 1,500 electric mining trucks. Open-pit mining usage exceeds 50% domestically, with per-ton-kilometer costs 30% lower than diesel trucks. According to the plan, the company will complete full replacement of traditional diesel mining trucks with new energy mining trucks within three years.
