National Charging Infrastructure Reaches 24.777 Million Units, Up 37.2% Year-on-Year
According to the latest data from the National Energy Administration, as of the end of September 2026, the total number of electric vehicle charging infrastructure units (guns) in China reached 24.777 million, a year-on-year increase of 37.2%. Of these, public charging facilities totaled 5.207 million units, up 16.3% year-on-year, while private charging facilities reached 19.570 million units, up 44.0% year-on-year.
China has built the world's largest charging network. However, behind the massive numbers, structural issues remain prominent, including supply-demand mismatch, scenario differentiation, and operational maintenance shortcomings. Range anxiety is no longer simply a question of "whether charging stations exist," but rather a structural contradiction of "whether you can charge nearby, charge quickly, charge reliably, and charge during peak hours."
The growth rate of private charging facilities at 44.0% significantly outpaced that of public facilities at 16.3%, with private units becoming the primary driver of total volume growth. As the charging infrastructure system continues to improve, market attention is shifting from "number of stations built" to "charging station utilization rate improvement and operational profitability realization."
In terms of policy, GB/T 47503-2026 "Technical Guidelines for Construction and Operation of Ordered Charging Systems" will take effect on November 1, 2026, pushing platform dispatch capabilities to become standard. The industry's focus is shifting from "building more" to "charging in an orderly manner." On the battery-swap track, BAIC Group and CATL signed a million-unit battery swap strategic cooperation agreement on October 22, pursuing the goal of one million battery-swap vehicles and promoting standard unification and network sharing.
