Shanghai Arbitration Commission releases second batch of "port, shipping, and water-related" model contracts.
On October 20, at the opening ceremony of the 2026 North Bund International Shipping Forum, the second batch of "port-related, shipping-related, water-related" model contract texts was released by the Shanghai Arbitration Commission as an "innovative achievement in high-end shipping services," providing transaction rules and professional legal service support for the green fuel technology transformation and upgrade of the shipping industry.
The model contract texts released this time include the "Ship Green Fuel Bunkering Contract" led and drafted by China Transportation News Agency, the "Ship Green Fuel Sales Contract" led and drafted by the China Ports Association, and the "International Ship Management Contract" drafted by the Shanghai International Shipping Center Development and Promotion Association.
Sun Haihua, Deputy Director of the Shanghai Arbitration Commission, introduced that the series of model contracts released this time align with the implementation directives of the Ministry of Transport and ten other departments to support the construction of Shanghai's international shipping green fuel bunkering center and trading center. They address key development points of the shipping industry, focus on actual industry needs, and adhere to a precise orientation. The contracts cover critical business segments such as green fuel sales, ship fuel bunkering, and international ship operation management, and are available for voluntary reference and consultation by industry market entities. They can further standardize market transaction agreements, proactively mitigate industry transaction risks, and strengthen the compliance framework of shipping industry operations.
Shanghai is fully accelerating the construction of a certification, trading, and bunkering full-chain system for international shipping green fuel. The release of this new batch of model contracts will solidify the contractual foundation for the high-quality development of new green shipping practices and models, fully highlighting Shanghai's proactive exploration, practice, and responsibility in the global shipping landscape, supporting industry green transformation, and continuously enhancing its influence over international shipping regulations and leadership capabilities.
It is reported that the Shanghai Arbitration Commission had released the first batch of "port-related, shipping-related, water-related" model contract texts at the main forum of the 2025 North Bund International Shipping Forum. These model contracts have effectively supported market entities in reducing transaction costs, improving transaction efficiency, and minimizing performance disputes, empowering and enhancing the legal and standardized development of Shanghai as an international shipping center.
