Dual-Certified Winter Tire with ENLITEN Tech
Bridgestone Americas recently launched its new flagship winter tire, the Blizzak IcePeak. This tire aims to further optimize driving safety and handling stability in complex winter road conditions, while simplifying the product line and replacing the previous Blizzak WS90 and DM-V2 models. As Bridgestone's first winter tire to simultaneously receive both Three Peaks Snowflake (3PMSF) and Ice Grip certifications, it represents a significant breakthrough in both technology application and design optimization. Details have been disclosed through official channels and authoritative media testing.
One of the core highlights of the new Blizzak IcePeak tire is its integration of Bridgestone's ENLITEN™ technology. This technology focuses on the core needs of winter tires, balancing grip, durability, and economy.
According to official disclosures, ENLITEN™ technology reduces rolling resistance by 21% by optimizing the rubber compound and tread structure, improving fuel economy, reducing vehicle energy consumption, and extending tire life by one to two more winters compared to its predecessor. Its patented multicellular rubber compound maintains a soft texture in low-temperature environments, preventing the rubber from hardening and reducing grip. This characteristic laid the foundation for its passing the stringent ice grip certification.
The dual certifications of ice grip and the Tri-Peak Snowflake certification are important technical markers for this tire. The Tri-Peak Snowflake certification primarily measures the tire's acceleration performance on compacted snow, requiring at least a 12% improvement over standard all-season tires. The ice grip certification, introduced in 2021, focuses more on ice braking performance, requiring at least an 18% improvement over the standard reference tire.
The Blizzak IcePeak tire successfully passed both certifications in official testing, with the corresponding certification marks clearly engraved on its sidewall, making it Bridgestone's first product to receive this dual certification. Previous models like the WS90 and DM-V2, launched before the ice grip certification standards were implemented, did not undergo the relevant testing and certification, which is one of the key reasons Bridgestone launched this new tire.
To further enhance winter performance and handling, the Blizzak IcePeak features a completely redesigned tread pattern incorporating numerous detail optimizations. Raised structures have been added to the edges of the tread blocks to effectively block water flow within the grooves, reducing the risk of hydroplaning on icy and snowy roads.
Microgrooves have been added to the tread surface to remove the thin film of water that forms on ice, allowing the tire to adhere more closely to the ice and improving grip during braking and steering. Simultaneously, the optimized 3D serrated sipes and full-depth tread pattern increase the engagement edge between the tire and the ground, reducing tire slippage and improving vehicle stability whether climbing on snow or changing lanes on ice.
The performance of this tire has been validated in real-world testing. At Bridgestone's Winter Driving School in Stinbot Springs, Colorado, testers fitted the tire to common models such as the Toyota Camry Hybrid and conducted tests including slalom and braking on icy and snowy roads.
They found that the tire offered natural handling, timely braking response, and acceleration performance improved by 23% compared to its predecessor, the WS90. Its overall performance is comparable to mainstream high-end winter tires like the Nokian Hakkapeliitta R5. Furthermore, the tire is compatible with various light vehicles, including sedans, SUVs, and trucks, and offers 107 sizes, covering approximately 97% of the US light vehicle market.
The Blizzak IcePeak tire is scheduled to officially launch in May 2026, with full availability expected in the fall. Its introduction not only completes Bridgestone's winter tire product line but also provides a more reliable option for users in areas with frequent icy and snowy weather.
Bridgestone stated that it will continue to promote the application of ENLITEN™ technology, planning to have 90% of its products equipped with this technology by the end of this decade, further improving tire performance and environmental friendliness.
As a winter tire that balances safety, durability, and versatility, the launch of the Blizzak IcePeak may further promote the development of the winter tire industry in terms of dual certification and performance optimization.
