Pirelli PZ5 Tires Excel in Wet & Dry Performance
The Pirelli PZ5 P Zero tire performed consistently and well in a recent comparison test conducted by overseas media involving nine tire brands, achieving first place in multiple categories and ranking among the top performers overall.
This test used 225/40 R18 tires on a Volkswagen Golf GTI, covering a full range of aspects including wet and dry handling, braking, hydroplaning resistance, comfort, and rolling resistance, providing a comprehensive reflection of each tire's overall performance in real-world driving.
A standout feature of the PZ5 is its stable performance in both wet and dry conditions, avoiding the "uneven" performance often seen in some performance tires. In wet tests, the tire demonstrated balanced performance, exhibiting agility and stability during driving, with a tight tread grip and consistent traction. Even in continuous corners and emergency lane changes, the vehicle's posture remained controllable, instilling sufficient confidence in the driver.
The tests also indicated that some competing tires provided more direct feedback on wet surfaces, offering slightly better grip. The PZ5 maintained a relatively stable speed in wet corners; while the exact reason is unclear, it's speculated to be related to differences in tread pattern design.
In the crucial hydroplaning test, the PZ5 performed well overall. Facing water of varying depths, the main tread grooves effectively drained water, reducing the risk of hydroplaning. Its lateral hydroplaning resistance was particularly impressive, approaching the test's best level, only slightly lagging behind top competitors in longitudinal hydroplaning.
In wet braking, the PZ5 ranked second, with a braking distance only 0.7 meters shorter than the best result. In real-world driving, this difference is almost negligible, further demonstrating its safety capabilities in wet conditions. This performance also meets the EU Tire Labelling Act's Class A grip rating standard.

In the rolling resistance test, the PZ5 achieved a score of 8.9 kg/t, placing it in the middle of the test range. While it falls short of competitors like Michelin and Goodyear, which emphasize fuel efficiency, it significantly outperforms products like the Bridgestone Potenza Sport, helping to reduce vehicle fuel consumption and carbon emissions to some extent, thus balancing performance and fuel economy. In this test, the top eight tires showed relatively small overall differences.
The PZ5, with its well-balanced performance across all dimensions, particularly its superior stability in both wet and dry conditions, has repeatedly achieved first place in authoritative overseas tire reviews.
As the fifth generation of the P Zero series, the PZ5 continues the series' racing DNA while achieving a better balance between performance and comfort through technological iterations.
