Ningbo Waterborne Radio Monitoring Drill Protects Fishing Season Opening

On September 15, the Ningbo Communication Center of the East China Sea Navigation Support Center, in collaboration with the Ningbo Chuanshan Maritime Office and the Ningbo Radio Management Bureau, conducted an emergency drill for maritime radio monitoring at the Chuanshan Port Area of Ningbo Zhoushan Port to ensure the safety of waterway traffic and smooth communication during the fishing season.

This drill simulated an emergency scenario where the VHF (Very High Frequency) Channel 16 distress and safety channel was disrupted by unknown signals, causing communication obstacles. The full process included emergency response, comprehensive interference investigation, precise source tracing, on-site standardized handling, and communication verification and recovery operations. The maritime patrol team conducted dynamic mobile monitoring in core navigation waters using professional equipment such as AIS (Automatic Identification System) time slot analyzers. The ground monitoring vehicle team carried out land-based spectrum scanning and abnormal signal tracing along the port area shoreline, strengthening the foundation of shore-based monitoring. The aerial drone operation team equipped with radio monitoring devices conducted airborne operations to perform close-range detection in densely populated ship areas, nearshore blind spots, and complex waters, complementing the shortcomings of shipborne and shore-based monitoring.

This specialized drill focused on testing the practical application effectiveness of "drones + radio monitoring" in complex electromagnetic environments and densely navigated scenarios within the port area. It further refined and optimized the cross-departmental emergency coordination, information sharing, and joint handling mechanisms, effectively enhancing the capabilities for rapid investigation, precise positioning, and efficient handling of maritime radio interference.
