Taizhou Maritime Authorities Fully Defend Against "Saola"

On August 28, Typhoon "Saudel," the 18th typhoon of the year, made landfall along the coast of Kanmen Street, Yuhuan City, Taizhou, Zhejiang Province. At the time of landfall, the maximum wind force near the center reached level 12 (35 meters/second), with a minimum central pressure of 975 hPa. The typhoon caused massive waves near the shore and was accompanied by heavy rain.

Following "Bavi" and "White Dolphin," this marks the third time a typhoon has made landfall in Yuhuan. Simultaneously, it coincided with an astronomical high tide, creating a "fourfold encounter" of wind, rain, waves, and tides. Facing this severe challenge, the maritime department demonstrated a spirit of continuous combat, with all personnel steadfastly guarding the frontlines of typhoon defense. They coordinated efforts to ensure the safety of waterway traffic in the jurisdiction and were prepared to respond to emergencies at any time. During the landfall, Taizhou Maritime used the Smart Maritime System and other tools to monitor key waterways in real-time, such as typhoon shelter anchorages, the Yueqing Bay Cross-Sea Bridge, and water operation areas. They tracked the movements of ships sheltering in port, continuously issued warning information via WeChat, SMS, and high-frequency broadcasts, and utilized tugboats as "sentinel ships" to assist in monitoring. They regularly reported on sea wind and wave conditions as well as the dynamics of anchored ships, achieving early detection, early warning, and early response to potential risks.

As of now, the order of ships sheltering in Yuhuan's jurisdiction remains stable, with no incidents of anchor dragging, collisions, or casualties. The maritime department particularly reminds everyone to remain vigilant against the return of southerly winds after the typhoon's landfall. Shelter-seeking ships must continue to stay on alert, and evacuated personnel should not risk returning to their vessels until the danger has passed.
